GOLD Coast Mayor Tom Tate is pointing voters to the post or pre-poll ahead of the looming council election amid three new cases of coronavirus in Queensland (further cases have now been confirmed).
Cr Tate said 12 March he had received the latest briefing from the State Disaster Coordination Centre, including an update on the impact of COVID-19 on a local, national and global scale.
It comes as Queensland Health warned of three new cases in Queensland, involving a 46-year-old Brisbane woman, a 22-year-old Brisbane man and a 42-year-old Sunshine Coast woman
Cr Tate said Gold Coast residents do not need to panic.
“Be alert, not alarmed is the best attitude,” he wrote on social media.
“With that in mind, there is a broader conversation about avoiding large events where crowds are often confined.
“This virus is of particular concern for those who may have a weakened immune system or underlying health issues including diabetes, a heart condition or high blood pressure.
“Our seniors are a particular focus group, as viruses in general can have a more detrimental impact on the elderly.”
Cr Tate said the QLD Electoral Commission had raised alternative options for voting ahead of the local government election on March 28, including pre-polling (locations listed below).
